พิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติขอนแก่น อ. เมือง จ. ขอนแก่น เป็นที่เก็บรวบรวมและจัดแสดงโบราณวัตถุและศิลปวัตถุอันมีค่าตั้งแต่สมัยก่อนประวัติศาสตร์จนถึงสมัยประวัติศาสตร์ มีการจัดแสดงโครงกระดูกมนุษย์ยุคหินใหม่ที่บ้านเชียงและเครื่องมือเครื่องใช้ของผู้คนในยุคนั้น สิ่งที่ควรชมสำหรับพิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งนี้ คือใบเสมาหินทรายขนาดใหญ่เป็นงานพุทธศิลป์สมัยทวารวดีจำหลักภาพพุทธประวัติที่งดงามและสมบูรณ์มาก พบที่เมืองฟ้าแดดสูงยาง จังหวัดกาฬสินธุ์

นอกจากนั้นยังมีศิลปวัตถุสมัยขอมหรือลพบุรีอันได้แก่ทับหลังจากปราสาทหินในภาคอีสาน นอกเหนือจากโบราณวัตถุที่พบในท้องถิ่นแล้ว ที่นี่ยังจัดแสดงศิลปวัตถุสมัยอื่นไว้ด้วย เช่น สุโขทัย อยุธยา เป็นต้น และส่วนหนึ่งก็จัดแสดงข้าวของเครื่องใช้พื้นบ้านไว้ด้วยเหมาะสำหรับผู้ที่สนใจศึกษาด้านประวัติศาสตร์ โบราณคดี และชีวิตความเป็นอยู่ของคนอีสาน

พิพิธภัณฑ์แห่งนี้ตั้งอยู่ที่ถนนหลังศูนย์ราชการ เปิดให้เข้าชมทุกวัน ตั้งแต่เวลา 09.00 – 16.00 น. ปิดวันจันทร์, วันอังคาร และวันหยุดนักขัตฤกษ์

Khon Kaen National Museum

Khon Kaen National Museum began construction in 1967 as a place to collect, preserve and display antiques and artifacts which are national treasures and cultural resources in the northern part of Isaan (Northeastern region of Thailand). Later, in 1968-1969, it was funded to purchase the durable articles and for building and was completed in 1972. It was opened by King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 20 December 1972. Most of the exhibits are concerned with history, art, and archaeology. Besides the museum's permanent collection, temporary exhibitions are shown throughout the year. Later in, 1992 the Fine Arts Department had initiated the idea of several adjustments in Khoan Kaen National Museum and funded 3,000,000 baht for a building and auditorium construction, 985,300 baht for purchasing durable articles and improving the permanent exhibition in the museum to meet the demand of the community in the method of national museum improvement. It is a crucial policy of the Fine Arts Department. The Khon Kaen National Museum is considered another important learning center in the local area for those who are interested about learning history, archaeology, way of living and traditions to maintain the cultural heritage.
