Nakhon Ratchasima City Pillar Shrine is located on Chom Phon Road. In the corner of Wat Phra Narai the Great; it is a sacred place of the province, and well- respected by the people who come to worship regularly Nakhon Ratchasima City Pillar Shrine was built during the building of Nakhon Ratchasima in the year 1656-2288, during the reign of King Narai the Great. Later, Chao Anuwong raised an army to seize the city of Nakhon Ratchasima in 1826 and destroyed the city pillar. From the story told by Mr. Kaew Petchsophon, the shrine’s keeper, he said that: The old shrine was a small wooden shrine with 6 pillars, planted as a ground shed, with a zinc roof and a slate roof, with 1 door. The city pillar was hung by leather ropes on both the pillars and the downed pillars. The head of the pole is facing the Chainarong Gate or Phi Gate (south), while the base of the pole is in the north. The interior was rather gloomy. It smells like incense and candles. The area in front of the Shrine is mud. Sandalwood trees were planted along the road, and have hundreds of pillars (This is the first pillar of Nakhon Ratchasima, which is placed across the road). To the west of the Shrine is a forest, with a cinema and a li-kay. Nakhon Ratchasima residents greatly respect the City Pillar Shrine. People who pass by must always pay their respects especially those who come with the ox cart; if anyone does not pay homage, his wagon will be bogged down, and the ox will fall and not be able to walk until they pay respects. On December 22, 1900 on December 22, 1900 by King Chulalongkorn's train, visited the City Pillar Shrine, and lighting candles to worship the shrine. Then, he rode back through the Chumphon Gate.
