วัดหินหมากเป้ง Wat Hin Mak Peng
ราว พ.ศ. 2476 ที่ซึ่งเป็นวัดหินหมากเป้งในขณะนี้เป็นป่าทึบรกมาก กอปรด้วยเชื้อมาลาเรีย ทั้งเป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของเหล่าสัตว์ร้ายต่าง ๆ มีเสือ หมี เป็นต้น แล้วก็เป็นท่าข้ามของเขาเหล่านั้นในระหว่าง 2 ประเทศ คือ ไทยและลาว เพราะที่นี้ห่างจากคนสัญจรไปมา จะมีก็พวกพรานป่ามาหาดักยิงสัตว์กินเท่านั้น อนึ่ง คนแถบนี้รู้จักหินหมากเป้งในนามว่าผีดุมาก พระธุดงค์ที่ต้องการทดสอบความกล้าหาญของตนแล้ว จะต้องมาภาวนา ณ ที่นี้ ผู้ที่ได้มาทดสอบความกล้าหาญในที่นี้แล้ว ย่อมเชื่อตนเองได้ ทั้งเพื่อนพรหมจรรย์ก็ยกยอว่าเป็นผู้ที่กล้าหาญเชื่อถือได้ เนื่องจากเขาถือว่าผีดุนั่นเอง ต้นไม้ใหญ่ป่าดงจึงยังเหลือไว้ให้พวกเราได้เห็นดังปรากฏอยู่ ณ บัดนี้ นอกจากจะเป็นท่าข้ามของเหล่าสัตว์ร้ายดังกล่าวแล้ว ยังเป็นท่าข้ามของพวกมิจฉาชีพ ขนของหนีภาษีมีฝิ่นเถื่อน เป็นต้น สัตว์พาหนะมีวัวควายเป็นต้นไม่ว่าฝั่งโน้นหรือฝั่งนี้ ถ้ามันหายสงสัยว่าคนขโมยแล้ว ทั้งเจ้าของและเจ้าหน้าที่จุดแรกจะต้องมาดักจับเอาตรงนี้เอง ถ้าไม่เจอแล้วก็หมดหวัง
หินหมากเป้งเป็นชื่อหินสามก้อนซึ่งตั้งเรียงรายกันอยู่ริมฝั่งโขงที่หน้าวัดนี้เอง อันมีรูปลักษณะคล้ายลูกตุ้มเครื่องชั่งทองคำสมัยเก่า
วัดหินหมากเป้ง จ.หนองคาย สร้างโดย อ.ท่าเต เดศรัณสี เจ้าอาวาสภาคตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ วัดนี้สร้างขึ้นเพื่อเป็นสถานที่ปฏิบัติธรรมของพระภิกษุ แม่ชี และผู้แสวงบุญ บรรยากาศภายในวัดค่อนข้างร่มรื่นและเงียบสงบเหมาะแก่การปฏิบัติธรรม อยู่ติดกับแม่น้ำโขง ภายในวัดมีสถานที่สำคัญหลายแห่ง เช่น เจดีย์พิพิธพันธ์ ภายในเจดีย์เป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ที่มีรูปหลวงปู่ท่า ๘ ประการในชีวิตประจำวันของพระสงฆ์ สิ่งจำเป็นสำหรับการจาริกแสวงบุญตามสถานที่ต่างๆ และเผาศพหลวงปู่ท่าที่เป็นสถานที่ประกอบพิธีฌาปนกิจ ได้เปลี่ยนโรงเผาศพเป็นที่ประดิษฐานของหลวงปู่ท่าให้เหล่าสาวกมาสักการะ
วัดหินหมากเป้งเป็นวัดที่มีบริเวณพื้นที่กว้างขวาง ร่มรื่นด้วยพรรณไม้ สะอาด เรียบร้อยและเงียบสงบ พื้นที่ด้านหลังติดกับลำน้ำโขงซึ่งมองเห็นทัศนียภาพสวยงาม แต่เดิมเคยเป็นที่ปฏิบัติธรรมของหลวงปู่เทสก์ เทสรังสี เกจิอาจารย์ชื่อดังของภาคอีสาน ซึ่งเป็นผู้ริเริ่มจัดตั้งให้เป็นสถานที่ปฏิบัติธรรมของภิกษุสงฆ์ แม่ชี และผู้แสวงบุญทั้งหลาย หลังจากท่านมรณภาพมีการก่อสร้างเจดีย์ เพื่อบรรจุอัฐของท่าน ภายในมีรูปปั้นของหลวงปู่เทสก์ พร้อมจัดแสดงเครื่องอัฐบริขารและชีวประวัติของท่านอีกด้วย

Wat Hin Mak Peng Wat Hin Mak Peng is a meditation center for monks, nuns and pilgrims. This tranquil sanctuary is adjacent to the Mekong and is ideal for relaxation. The sanctuary is at km. 83 of highway No.2186, 30 km. from Amphoe Sri Chiang Mai.
Hin Mak Peng is a stone with similar shape to the ancient gold scales. The word Mak is southeastern language. There is a myth from the oldman that the first stone belonged to Luang Phrabang, the second stone belonged to Bangkok and third stone belonged to Vientiane. Wat Hin Mak Peng in Nong Khai Province was built by Ajaan Thate Desaransi, the famous master of the southeastern region. The temple was built to be a location for dharma practice for the monks, nuns and pilgrims. The temples’ atmosphere is quite shady and peaceful which is suitable for dharma practice. It is adjacent to the Mekong River. The temple contains many crucial venues such as Chedi Phiphitthaphan. The inside of the pagoda is a museum containing Luang Pu Thate Image, the eight necessities for a monk’s daily life, the necessities for pilgrimage who travel to various places and Luang Pu Thate Crematory which was the place for cremation ceremony. The crematory has been transformed to the enshrinement place of Lung Phu Thate for his disciples to come and pay homage.
In the past, it used to be a meditation practice of Luang Pu Tesk Tesrangsi, a famous teacher of the Isan region. which initiated the establishment as a place of practice for monks, nuns and pilgrims After his death, there was a construction of a pagoda. to contain your treasures Inside there is a statue of Luang Pu Tesk. along with displaying the artifacts and his biography as well.
Many of you may ask where the mentioned Hin Mak Peng is situated in the temple. In fact, you cannot see it unless you go on a boat ride in the Mekong River and look back at the temple. Some areas of the temple are on the first Hin Mak Peng. If you don’t want to go on a boat ride to view Hin Mak Peng, there are paintings of Hin Mak Peng at the Hin Mak Peng terrace. In addition, the temple contains many venues which are intriguing and related to Luang Pu Thate. They include Luang Pu Thate Desaransi Rememberance Mondop, Luang Pu Thate Waxwork Pavillion as well as area for dharma practice.
