หอพระอิศวรและเสาชิงช้า ตั้งอยู่ริมถนนราชดำเนิน ตำบลในเมือง อำเภอเมือง ตรงข้ามหอพระนารายณ์ หอพระอิศวรเป็นที่ประดิษฐานรูปเคารพพระอิศวร อันเป็นเทพองค์หนึ่งของพราหมณ์ ใช้เป็นเทวสถานสำหรับประกอบพิธีกรรมของศาสนาพราหมณ์ สันนิษฐานว่าสร้างในสมัยอยุธยา แต่ของเดิมชำรุดไปหมดแล้วอาคารที่ปรากฏทุกวันนี้ เป็นอาคารที่กรมศิลปากรบูรณะขึ้นใหม่ เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2509 ทางด้านเหนือของหอพระอิศวรเป็นวัดเสมาเมือง ทางด้านใต้เป็นเสาชิงช้า ซึ่งสร้างขึ้นใหม่แทนของเก่าซึ่งใช้ในพิธียัมปวาย และตรีปวาย ของพราหมณ์ เมืองนครศรีธรรมราช โดยจำลองแบบมาจากเสาชิงช้าในกรุงเทพฯ แต่มีขนาดเล็กกว่า และ เพิ่งเลิกไปเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2468 เดิมหอพระอิศวรเป็นที่ประดิษฐานเทวรูป พระอิศวรหลายองค์ เป็นปางหรือภาคต่างๆ กัน ซึ่งเป็นเทพสูงสุดตามความเชื่อของพราหณ์ลัทธิไศวนิกาย แต่เดิมใกล้ ๆ กับเสาชิงช้า มีโบสถ์พราหมณ์อยู่หลังหนึ่ง แต่ปัจจุบันผุพังลงจนไม่เหลือซากแล้ว ภายในบริเวณโบสถ์เป็นแหล่งที่พบชิ้นส่วนเทวรูปที่หล่อด้วยสำริดอายุระหว่างพุทธศตวรรษที่ 18 - 25 หลายองค์ด้วยกัน อาทิ พระพิฆเนศวร พระศิวะนาฏราช พระอุมา และรูปหงส์ นับว่าเก่าแก่มีค่ายิ่งนัก ซี่งต่อมาได้ย้ายมาไว้ในหอพระอิศวรชั่วคราว และจากนั้นทางพิพิธภัณฑสถานแห่งชาติเกรงว่าจะสูญหายไป จึงได้ย้ายมาเก็บรักษาไว้ในห้องจัดแสดงของทางพิพิธภัณฑ์ โดยหล่อรูปจำลองไว้แทนที่ในหอพระอิศวร

Shiva tower and Giant Swing on Ratchadamnoen Road; it is an ancient site in the Hindu religion. Originally, near the swing pillar, there was a Brahmin church behind it, but now it has decayed until there is no more remains. Inside the church area is the source of many bronze idols aged between the 18th and 25th Buddhist centuries, such as Ganesha, Shiva Nataraja, Uma, and the swan image. Later, figures were moved to the temporary Shiva Hall. And, then the National Museum is afraid that it will be lost, and moved them to keep in the exhibition room of the museum by casting a replica to replace it in the Shiva Hall.
