The research indicates that the sector will reach $67 billion in 2024 and exceed pre-pandemic peaks, reaching $75 billion in 2025. The report also notes that online bookings for these experiences will surpass 30% of all bookings worldwide by 2025, compared to 17% in 2019.

Arival CEO Douglas Quinby highlighted the global travel industry’s challenges as demand from the APAC region rises, saying, “The challenge now will be for the global industry to get ready for the rapid influx of demand from across Asia Pacific.”

Recovery in Asia Pacific for travel’s third-largest sector – tours, activities and attractions

The report suggests that younger travellers in the APAC region drive growth in the tours, activities, and attractions sector. Arival notes that this demographic is willing to pay for more immersive experiences that are “off the beaten path” and can be easily discovered and booked using mobile devices.

The Arival Activate event, scheduled for June 12-14 in Bangkok, will bring together hundreds of tours, activities, and experiences professionals from across the region. The event will focus on aiding businesses in their post-pandemic recovery, offering sessions on digital strategies, connectivity, channel management, and sustainable tourism.

Some key topics to be covered at the event include generative chat, the guest experience, the future of distribution, super apps, dynamic pricing, and culinary travel trends.

As the APAC region reopens to regional and long-haul travel, the growth in the tours, activities, and attractions sector is expected to continue. Industry experts suggest that mobile-ready operators who offer immersive experiences will be best positioned to benefit from this growth.
