Hutchison Ports Thailand (HPT) and the Faculty of International Maritime Studies at Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus (IMS, KU) have signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) to extend existing academic cooperation, collaborate on research that helps the sustainable development of the Thailand shipping industry, and support the learning of future maritime sector employees through the provision of internship opportunities. The agreement will also see HPT and IMS, KU continue their joint work on CSR initiatives in the community.
The partnership has been initiated as part of HPT’s Sustainable Future Program, which aims to support the sustainable development of HPT’s people and community, the environment, and its business operations. The collaboration with IMS, KU supports the people and community pillar and focuses on academic cooperation and creating opportunities for IMS, KU students to enhance their knowledge of the maritime industry and integrate sustainable practices into their learning.

HPT and IMU, KS have already collaborated on the GO GREEN project by initiating tree planting in the area around the port and an upcycling program which gave a second life to unused materials.
The partnership will now see HPT consult on curriculum design, provide internship opportunities and host regular fields trips, and collaborate on port-related research. Hutchison Ports Thailand’s Managing Director, Stephen Ashworth, will also host lectures at the faculty to build students’ knowledge of sustainable maritime business practices.
The collaboration with Kasetsart University is part of an overall programme of initiatives developed by Hutchison Ports’ Group Sustainability Committee with the aim of sharing knowledge to ensure effective global implementation of best practice to support sustainable development.
