This monumental decision, made during his recent visit to the Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects, marks a significant milestone in Dubai’s ambitious plans to cement its status as a global aviation powerhouse.

The approved designs for the new terminal, poised to become the largest in the world upon completion, signify a bold step towards revolutionizing the air travel experience. With an estimated cost of AED128 billion, this visionary project underscores Dubai’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in infrastructure development.

During his visit, Sheikh Mohammed emphasized the strategic significance of the new terminal, stating, “Al Maktoum International Airport will enjoy the world’s largest capacity, reaching up to 260 million passengers. It will be five times the size of the current Dubai International Airport, and all operations at Dubai International Airport will be transferred to it in the coming years.”

The scale and scope of the project are truly staggering. Plans for the new terminal include 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways, alongside the integration of cutting-edge aviation technologies. Sheikh Mohammed’s vision extends beyond mere infrastructure development, as he envisions the airport as a catalyst for broader economic growth and prosperity.

“We are building a new project for future generations, ensuring continuous and stable development for our children and their children in turn. Dubai will be the world’s airport, its port, its urban hub, and its new global centre,” Sheikh Mohammed affirmed.

Accompanying Sheikh Mohammed on his visit were key dignitaries, including His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, and His Highness Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, First Deputy Ruler of Dubai. Their presence underscores the collective commitment of Dubai’s leadership to realizing this ambitious vision.

The master plan for the Airport of the Future, reviewed during the visit, outlines an expansive vision for the development of Al Maktoum International Airport. With an ultimate capacity exceeding 260 million passengers annually, the airport is poised to emerge as the world’s largest airport, covering an area of 70 square kilometres. With an anticipated growth in Dubai’s aviation sector for decades, the airport is positioned to accommodate this growth.

Commenting on the occasion, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, highlighted the new airport’s transformative impact, stating, “The new airport, which will ultimately be over five times the size of Dubai International, will prepare the ground for the next 40 years of anticipated growth in Dubai’s aviation sector.”

Furthermore, the emphasis on sustainability is a cornerstone of the project, with plans to mitigate environmental emissions and achieve LEED Gold Certification. This integrated approach aligns with the UAE’s vision for a sustainably built environment and underscores Dubai’s commitment to responsible development.

In conclusion, Dubai’s approval of the designs for the new passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport heralds a new era of innovation and progress in the global aviation industry. With visionary leadership at the helm and a steadfast commitment to excellence, Dubai is poised to set new benchmarks for airport infrastructure and redefine the future of air travel.
