Conscientious consumers who care for the environment and value sustainably grown food are invited to participate in a social engagement campaign launched this week by Alibaba Group (“Alibaba”), which aims to boost support to Thai farmers who adopt eco-friendly farming practices.

In collaboration with the Foundation for Agricultural and Environmental Conservation (Thailand) (“F.AEC”), Alibaba has kicked off an online campaign that seeks to raise awareness of the negative impact of open field burning on agricultural areas and provide resources to Thai farmers that aspire to adopt more sustainable practices. Open field burning, which is commonly practiced by farmers to clear the land in preparation for the next growing period, is believed to produce air pollutants, catalyse climate change as well as affect the health of local flora and fauna.

“We would like to thank Alibaba for prioritizing the environment. We believe that the cooperation from every organization aiming to decarbonize and reduce greenhouse gas emissions would facilitate sustainable agriculture, also, raise awareness about the impact of open burning which is occurring in many regions of the world. Besides, Alibaba supports eco-friendly equipment for farmers in the community. We sincerely hope that Thai people will support this event to raise more awareness regarding green agriculture.”  Dr.Tawan Hangsoongnern, Director of F.AEC said

From now until February 4, netizens can make their contribution simply by playing the “Green Ranger Dash” game featured on the Alibaba Group Thailand Facebook page, and sharing a screenshot of their score in the comments section and tagging two friends in the same post. Their participation will be converted into donation of organic seeds, organic fertilizers and farming equipment by Alibaba to support a total of 8,314 farmers in three provinces in Northern Thailand (Lamphun, Lampang, Maehongson) supported by F.AEC’s Fresh Air and Green Forest Project.

With participation from 50 valid users, Alibaba will donate organic seeds; 100 comments will see organic seeds and organic fertilizers being donated; and when 250 comments have been posted, Alibaba will also donate essential organic farming equipment.

The “Green Ranger Dash” campaign is part of Alibaba’s ongoing efforts to be a force for positive, innovative change in sustainable development. Among other initiatives, the company in December 2021 announced a pledge to achieve carbon neutrality in its own operations by 2030 and introduced a Scope 3+ target, a pioneering initiative aiming to facilitate 1.5 gigatons of decarbonization across its business ecosystem by 2035.
