The Expressway Authority of Thailand (EXAT) and Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic collaboration on the development of the first-ever Smart Expressway project in Thailand. The project aims to apply innovative digital technologies to drive forward the efficiency of Thai highways.

Mr. Kevin Cheng, President of Thailand Enterprise Business Group, Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., explained the details surrounding the collaboration: “Huawei will apply our cutting-edge technologies, including ICT cloud solutions and collaborative innovation solutions developed with strategic partners, to create innovative ideas and applications in aid of the Smart Expressway project. Huawei is committed in delivering the highest quality research and development projects and will collaborate with EXAT to strengthen new business models and increase investment opportunities. This collaboration is in line with Huawei’s mission ‘Grow in Thailand, Contribute to Thailand’, which aims to empower Thailand to become the future digital hub of the ASEAN region.”

Mr. Cheng added that Huawei and EXAT will also form a strategic partnership for the development of smart expressways in Thailand: “We will fully leverage our resources to strengthen this collaboration and will plan for further collaborations through increased knowledge exchange. Huawei is committed to providing full technical support to the Smart Expressway project in Thailand.”

Mr. Surachet Laophulsuk, Governor of the Expressway Authority of Thailand, gave an interview about this collaboration: “EXAT and Huawei will leverage their respective areas of expertise to support the Ministry of Transport and Huawei’s collaborative vision for Thailand, as well as pilot projects for ITS system development and express way management within the next ten years. Huawei will work in close collaboration with EXAT to create new business models, paving the way for EXAT’s future-proof technology investments. This will come in the form of open technology, which will help enable a transparent technology provider auction and allocate necessary resources for EXAT’s most effective use of innovation. This will allow us to modernize our infrastructure and ICT architecture, thereby matching the smart technology application trend.”

The MoU sets forth a strategic collaboration between the Expressway Authority of Thailand and Huawei on smart expressways. Under this agreement, each organization will continue to utilize its expertise to fully explore potential collaborations on Smart Expressway management and development for the mutual benefit of both parties.
