It was a celebration of a genuinely intense year that was full of satisfaction for 50 Top Italy, the online guide to the best of the Made in Italy brand, both within and outside of our national borders. The highly anticipated Special Awards, which spotlight professionals who have distinguished themselves over the past year, were also conferred.

The Gran Galà della Cucina Italiana took place yesterday evening, December 13th, at the Teatro San Babila in Milan. The evening event was presented by Federico Quaranta, who revealed the 50 Best Italian Restaurants in the World.

In third position is the contemporary restaurant, which was created by two Italian names of worldwide fame: the house of Gucci and the celebrated chef from Modena, Massimo Bottura: The restaurant, under the guidance of Executive Chef Stefano Bacchelli and with the supervision of the Cerea family, has been confirmed as a venue of true excellence in the restaurant sector both domestically and abroad. Second place in this prestigious ranking goes to Don Alfonso, 1890 Toronto in Canada, under the direction of chef Daniele Corona.

Da Vittorio Shanghai in China has been named the Best Italian Restaurant in the World. Gucci Osteria da Massimo Bottura in Tokyo, under the guidance of chef Antonio Iacoviello.

Fiola has captured fifth place in Washington DC, owned by Fabio Trabocchi and known as one of the favourite haunts of the American President Joe Biden. In sixth place is Sesamo in Marrakesh, which bears the signature of Massimiliano Alajmo.

In fourth position is Il Carpaccio in Paris, a venue that was launched thanks to a meeting between the Cerea family and Oliver Piras and Alessandra del Favero. The seventh position goes to Locanda Locatelli in London, a venue owned by the well-known chef Giorgio Locatelli. In eighth place is Il Lago in Geneva, under the direction of Massimiliano Sena.

Antonio Iacoviello is the Chef of the Year 2023 – D’Amico Award; Il Carpaccio, in Paris, captures Lunch of the Year 2023 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award; to Laura Roncaccioli from Caffè Stern, in Paris, goes the Sommelier of the Year 2023 – Ferrarelle Award; the Novelty of the Year 2023 – Latteria Sorrentina Award is Lucida, in El Alamein, by chef Giorgio Diana; Armani Ristorante in Tokyo, under the guidance of chef Carmine Amarante, has captured the prize of Restaurant Pastries 2023 – Mulino Caputo Award; the Dish of the Year 2023 – Pastificio dei Campi Award is Spaghetti, come to una bruschetta at Clara, in Bangkok, by the chef Christian Martena; the Made in Italy 2023 – Solania Award goes to Giando, in Hong Kong, by chef Gianni Caprioli.

The special awards for the Italy guide instead have recognized Davide Oldani as Chef of the Year 2023 – D’Amico Award; the Lunch of the Year 2023 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award goes to Zia Restaurant in Rome, by Antonio Ziantoni; the Performance of the Year 2023 – Altamura OP Award goes to Imàgo at the Hotel Hassler in Rome guided by chef Andrea Antonini; the Dish of the Year 2023 – Pastificio dei Campi Award is Pomodoro, by chef Davide Guidara at I Tenerumi in Lipari; the Novelty of the Year 2023 – Latteria Sorrentina Award is Andrea Aprea, in Milan; Mario Iaccarino from the Don Alfonso 1890 group has been named Restaurant Manager of the Year 2023 – Goeldlin Award; the Restaurant Pastries 2023 – Mulino Caputo Award has been conferred to Duomo, in Ragusa, with pastry chef Fabrizio Fiorani; the Best Breakfast 2023 – Caffè Borbone Award has been captured by Hotel Brunelleschi with chef Rocco de Santis directing the kitchen; the Sommelier of the Year 2023 – Ferrarelle Award goes to Marco Reitano at La Pergola, in Rome; the General Manager of the Year 2023 – Birrificio Fratelli Perrella Award recognizes Salvatore Pagano at the Savoy Beach Hotel, in Capaccio Paestum; the Pastry Chef of the Year 2023 – Mulino Caputo Award is for Gianluca Fusto, at FUSTO in Milan; finally, the Contemporary Pastry Shop 2023 – Latteria Sorrentina Award goes to Pietro Macellaro Pasticceria Agricola Cilentana, in Piaggine.

During the evening, the top ten slots of the Trattorie/Bistrò Moderni category were revealed, as well as the best Cucina d’Autore Restaurants, the Grandi Ristoranti, the Luxury restaurants and the top Spin-Off restaurants. After the awards ceremony, the organizers and guests celebrated this incredible year by raising a glass of Trento DOC Ferrari at the Excelsior Hotel Gallia.
