The Michelin Guide Thailand has been instrumental in driving the growth of Thailand’s tourism sector, as local food experiences can influence travel decisions and add value to overall travel experiences. According to the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Surat Thani tourism in 2022 saw the highest growth in the country, with tourism revenue increasing more than 900 percent from the previous year.

Expanding territory coverage to Koh Samui, Thailand’s second-largest island after Phuket, and the mainland of Surat Thani will showcase the region’s natural wonders, cultural heritage, and culinary delights. Surat Thani is “the province of a thousand islands” famous for its large oysters, river prawns, and salted duck eggs. At the same time, Koh Samui offers various Thai and international restaurants and accommodations, ranging from 5-star hotels to budget-friendly alternatives.

THE MICHELIN GUIDE THAILAND 2024 EDITION EXTENDS DEEPER INTO THE SOUTHGwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guides, noted that the gastronomy in Koh Samui and Surat Thani is unique and flavorful, with many local dishes that cannot be found elsewhere. Fresh local ingredients, especially seafood from local resources, are critical elements of the deliciousness.

The Michelin Guide Thailand 2024 will cover Bangkok, Phuket, Phang-Nga, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya, Isan, Koh Samui and Surat Thani mainland. Including Surat Thani and Koh Samui in the guide will offer an incredible opportunity for global gastronomes to discover distinctive local flavours and culinary traditions, said Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
