ข้อมูลทั่วไป วนอุทยานถ้ำเขาวงอยู่ในท้องที่หมู่ที่ 3 ตำบลบ้านไร่ อำเภอบ้านไร่ จังหวัดอุทัยธานี อยู่ในเขตป่าสงวนแห่งชาติป่าห้วยท่ากวยและป่าห้วยกระเวน มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 8,125 ไร่ กรมป่าไม้ได้ประกาศจัดตั้งเป็นวนอุทยานเมื่อวันที่ 9 ธันวาคม 2544
ลักษณะภูมิประเทศ เป็นภูเขาสลับซับซ้อน เขาช่องลม เขารูปช้างมีพื้นที่ประมาณ 2,500 ไร่ ความสูงของยอดเขาที่สูงที่สุด 637 เมตร จากระดับน้ำทะเลปานกลาง โดยภูเขาทั้งสองนี้แยกจากกันและระหว่างเขามีพื้นที่ราบสูงประมาณ 1,000 ไร่ พื้นที่ส่วนใหญ่ของวนอุทยานเป็นภูเขาสูงชันประมาณ 35 % สภาพป่าบนยอดเขายังอุดมสมบูรณ์เป็นที่อยู่อาศัยของสัตว์ป่าหลายชนิด และยังเป็นต้นน้ำลำธารของลำห้วยหมอโค้ ซึ่งไหลผ่านอำเภอบ้านไร่ บริเวณเขาช่องลมจะมีน้ำไหลตลอดปี
พืชพรรณและสัตว์ป่า พื้นที่บริเวณเขารูปช้างและเขาช่องลม เป็นป่าเบญจพรรณเกือบทั้งหมด ยกเว้นบริเวณยอดเขาเป็นป่าโป่งผสมผลัดใบหลายชนิด บริเวณใกล้ ๆ ยอดเขาเป็นป่าเบญจพรรณ มีป่าเบญจพรรณชื้นเป็นหย่อม ๆ พันธุ์ไม้ที่พบได้แก่ ไม้มะค่าโมง สลอง ตะแบก เสลา ประดู่ แดง ชิงชัน หว้า พฤกษ์ พะยอม แคทราย ตะกร้อ มะกล่ำ มะแฟน กระพี้จั่น เปล้า ส้าน เพกา เป็นต้น พบป่าดิบแล้งบริเวณร่องเขาหรือหุบเขาริมลำห้วยในฤดูฝนจะมีสภาพเป็นป่าดิบชื้น มีไม้พื้นล่างขึ้นอยู่ค่อนข้างหนาแน่นได้แก่ ไม้ล้มลุกหลายชนิด เถาวัลย์ กล้วยไม้ เฟิร์น ไผ่ซาง ไผ่ป่า ไผ่นวล สมุนไพรที่พบด้แก่ รางจืด ซึ่งใช้สำหรับถอนพิษไข้และอาการเบื่อมา สมุนไพรชนิดอื่น ๆ เช่น ยาข้าวเย็นเหนือ หางไหลแดง หางไหลขาว รางแดง ช้าพลู สะค้าน บอระเพ็ด กลิ้งกลางดง สบู่เลือด มะเกลือ กระทือ เอื้อง เพกา ใบมะกา ข่อย โคคลาน สุรารำพา เป็นต้น
ปัจจุบันยังมีสัตว์ป่าอาศัยอยู่บนเขาหลายชนิด เช่น เลียงผา อีเห็น หมูป่า ไก่ป่า แย้ ไก่ฟ้า ลิง เก้ง ตะกวด นิ่ม ชะมด พังพอน กระรอก กระแต กระต่ายป่า ตุ่น อ้น ค้างคาว และงูหลายชนิด เป็นต้น
แหล่งท่องเที่ยว ด้านธรรมชาติที่สวยงาม ถ้ำเขาวง อยู่บริเวณทิศตะวันตกของเขารูปช้าง ห่างจากถนนประมาณ 100 เมตร เป็นสถานที่นักท่องเที่ยวเข้าไปชมความสวยงามเป็นอันดับแรก มีความร่มรื่นตามธรรมชาติของร่มไม้ระหว่างทางถ้ำเล็กถ้ำน้อยมากมายหลายสิบถ้ำ ภายในถ้ามีหินงอกหินย้อยสีน้ำตาลหรือขาวนวล เมื่อกระทบกับแสงไฟจะมีลักษณะเป็นประกายเพชร ถ้ำพระอุโบสถ เป็นถ้ำขนาดใหญ่ที่อยู่เขารูปช้างด้านทิศใต้ เกิดจากเขาหินปูนภายในเป็นห้องโถงกว้างขวางและถ้ำเล็กถ้ำน้อยอีกหลายถ้ำ แต่ละถ้ำเป็นหินงอกหินย้อยที่มีความงดงาม ถ้ำใหญ่เขาวง อยู่บริเวณทิศตะวันออกของเขาช่องลม เป็นถ้ำหินปูนขนาดใหญ่ปากทางบันไดเดินขึ้นไปชมความสวยงามในถ้ำ ซึ่งประกอบด้วยห้องโถงจำนวน 4 ห้อง มีหินงอกหินย้อยรูปลักษณะต่างกันหลายรูปแบบ ถ้ำพุหวาย เป็นเขาหินปูนอยู่ทางด้านทิศตะวันตกของเขาช่องลม ภายในถ้ำกว้างขวาง ประกอบด้วย หินงอกหินย้อยสลับซับซ้อนมีความงามหลากหลายรูปแบบต่างกัน เช่น บางแห่งคล้ายน้ำตก บางแห่งคล้ายรูปเจ้าแม่กวนอิมยืนบนหินงอก ถ้ำเทพมาลี อยู่ทางทิศตะวันตกของเขาช่องลม ห่างจากถ้ำพุหวายประมาณ 50 เมตร มีหินงอกหินย้อยมากมายสลับซับซ้อนมองเป็นประกายเพชรแวววาวตามธรรมชาติ

การเดินทาง รถยนต์ การเดินทางเข้าถึงพื้นที่บริเวณเขารูปช้าง เขาช่องลม มีความสะดวกมากเพราะมีถนนราดยางสามารถเดินทางจากจังหวัดอุทัยธานี ตามทางหลวงหมายเลข 3011 ถึงอำเภอบ้านไร่ จากนั้นไปตามทางหลวงท้องถิ่นสายบ้านไร่ - บ้านอีหลุบ ระยะทาง 6 กิโลเมตร เลี้ยวซ้ายไปตามเส้นทาง ร.พ.ช. ผ่านเข้ารูปช้างสิ้นสุดที่เขาช่องลม บริเวณถ้ำพุหวาย รวมระยะทางห่างจากที่ว่าการอำเภอบ้านไร่ จังหวัดอุทัยธานี เพียง 15 กิโลเมตร
Thum Khao Wong Forest Park is located in Moo 3, Ban Rai District, Ban Rai Ampur, Uthai Thani Province. Thum Khao Wong is a forest park of 8,125 rais in Pa Huai Tha Kuai and Pa Huai Kra Wen Forest Reserve. It was gazetted by Royal Forest Department on 9 December 2001
Topography
The area is mountainous and the key features are Khao Chong Lom (Valley of the wind) and Khao Roop Chang (Elephant shape). The total mountain area is about 2,500 rais and the highest peak is 637 metres above sea level. Two mountains are separated by plateau of 1,000 rais. The forest park consists mainly of steep mountains about 35% of the area. The forest on the mountain is still in good condition and home to many wildlife species. Furthermore, the forest park is also wathershed of Huai Mor Kow stream which runs through Ban Rai Ampur. Streams run all year round in Khao Chong Lom area.
Flora and Fauna
The area of Khao Roop Chang and Khao Chong Lom is mostly Mixed Deciduous forest except on the mountain top area. The area near the top of the mountain is patchy moist Mixed Deciduous forest. Tree species found here are Afzelia xylocarpa, Lagerstroemia cuspidate, Lagerstroemia tomentosa,, Pterocarpus macrocarpus, Syzygium glaucum, Dalbergia oliveri, Syzygium cumini, Meliosma pinnata, Schleichera oleosa, Stereochilus neuranthum, Adenanthera pavonina, Protium serratum, Millettia brandisiana, Croton argyratus, Dillenia Spp, and Oroxylum indicum for example. Dry Evergree forest is found in mountain crevice and the valley near the stream. In the rainy season the forest become moist evergreen forest. Many Undergrowth species thrive here include vine, orchid, fern and bamboo spp. Herb species found in the area are Critakarua shanica, a local medicine for detoxic and relieve fever, is also f Piper betle, Piper interruptum, Tinospora crispa, Stephania venosa, Stephania pierrei, Diospyros mollis, Zingiber spectabile, Persicaria acuminata, Streblus asper, Anamirta cocculus, in the area. Other herb species include Smilax china, Derris elliptica, Ventilago denticulata andPiper betle. Many wildlife are still found living on the mountain today such as Serow, Civet, Palm Civet, Wild Pig, Junglefowl, Butterfly Lizard, Pheasant, Macaque, Barking Deer, Monitor, Pangolin, Mongoose, Squirrel, Treeshrew, Hare, Mole, Bamboo Rat, Bat and Snakes etc.
Tourist Attractions : The Beautiful of Nature
Khao Wong Cave
Khao Wong Cave is located in the west of Khao Roop Chang about 100 metres from the road. It is a special attraction that most tourists must visit first. The area is shady by trees along the corridor between other dozen smaller caves. Stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave are brownish and white-cream and when reflecting the light it shows diamond-glowing look.
Pra U-bosod Cave (Pagoda Cave)
This big cave is located in the South of Khao Roop Chang. It consists of one spacious cave and other small caves inside limestone mountain. Every cave has its own beautiful stalactites and stalagmites setting.
Khao Wong Big Cave
This cave is situated in the east of Khao Chong Lom. It is a big limestone cave. A stairway from the entrance leading to a beautiful cave inside that consist of four distinct chambers. Each one has various forms of stalactites and stalagmites.
Pu Wai Cave
Pu Wai cave is located in limestone mountain in the west of Khao Chong Lom. The area inside the cave is spacious consisting of elaborate stalactites and stalagmites. Those ones possess various forms of beauty. Some look like waterfall while another look just like Chinese godmother standing on a stalagmite.
Tep Malee Cave
The cave is located in the west of Khao Chong Lom about 50 metres from Pu Wai Cave. Stalactites and stalagmites in the cave are set elaborately. Those ones glitter like glowing diamond.

How to go?
By Car
Traveling to the area of Khao Roop Chang and Khao Chong Lom is very convenient by using a sealed road, hi-way no. 3011, from Uthai Thani to Ban Rai Ampur. Then follow a local hi-way Ban Rai-Ban E Lupe around 6 kms. Turn left to the local road passing Khao Roop Chang and end at Khao Chong Lom around Pu Wai Cave. The total distance from Ban Rai Ampur town hall, Uthai Thani Province, is only 15 kms.
