Natural resources will be sustainable if everyone helps takes care of them. NIVEA Sun, the world-class sun protection product trusted by Thai people, is collaborating with Watsons Thailand, the leading health and beauty store, on Earth Day to organise a “Care for your skin and protect the sea” program with the aim of preserving our marine environment.

Participate by buying reef-friendly NIVEA Sun products at any Watsons store from now to 24 May 2023, and for every purchase, NIVEA Sun will donate 5 Baht to the Raks Thai Foundation to support marine life preservation.

Thailand’s seas are ranked among the most beautiful seas in the world, but many tourists use sunscreen that contains chemicals harmful to the coral reef and marine life. Tourists around the world use over 14,000 tonnes of sunscreen each year, and studies have shown that the chemicals found in sunscreen, especially Octixonate and Oxybenzone, degrade coral reefs. These are two common UV-blocking chemicals cause coral larvae death, destroy the DNA of corals, and can cause coral bleaching. This issue has caused many countries to campaign for the preservation of coral reefs and marine life. In August 2021[1], the Royal Thai Government Gazette announced a ban on sunscreens containing toxic compounds from entering national parks.

Stephanie Barraud, Senior Vice President – MU ASEAN, Beiersdorf Co., Ltd. said, “It is widely recognised that depletion of global marine natural resources is an issue. We have a clear mission to deliver high-quality skincare while also preserving the planet sustainably through our C.A.R.E.+ (Care Beyond Skin) ethos, especially when it comes to preserving water sources. We are proud to have eco-friendly products such as NIVEA Sun, a 100% reef-friendly and microplastic-free sunscreen, and by using NIVEA Sun you can now contribute to marine and natural resources preservation.”

Nuanphan Jayanama, Chief Operating Officer, Watsons Thailand, said, “Sustainability is at the heart of what we do at Watsons, and we place great importance in protecting the environment and our planet. On Earth Day, Watsons Thailand joins the other countries we operate in to promote our ‘Green is the New Beautiful’ campaign to raise awareness of environmental issues. We are committed to making a positive impact and we do this by creating new environmentally friendly alternatives for consumers, like our Sustainable Choice Product range. This year we are donating revenue generated from sales of alternative products to support the environmental operations of the Raks Thai Foundation and its work with local communities to protect the environment.”

“We are also partnering with NIVEA to help raise funds through the sale of coral-friendly NIVEA Sun sunscreens across our strong network of our 650 Watsons stores across the country. We believe that this collaboration between Watson, Nivea and Raks Thai Foundation will make a truly positive impact on the environment and our planet.”

This summer, it’s easy to make a contribution to environmental protection while also being good to your skin by participating in the “Care for your skin and protect the sea” program and purchasing NIVEA Sun products at any Watsons store or online channel. The sales of NIVEA Sun products at Watsons from now to 24 May 2023 will provide support to Raks Thai Foundation’s efforts to preserve Thailand’s coral reef and marine natural resources.

“We are delighted to collaborate with a strong partner like Watsons to deliver a good skincare product to customers while also supporting an environmental protection program. We hope this project will be a small beginning that encourages people to realise the importance of environmental protection and protecting our natural resources,” Stephanie concluded.
